Why Nova Scotia?

Why not Nova Scotia might be the better question. It's one of those exotic sounding places that I've never been to and that's reason enough for me. I plan on leaving around the 8th of May and spending several weeks on the ride. Along the way I'll be camping out, visiting unsuspecting friends , and maybe getting to ride along with them for awhile. Let me know if you're up to either!

Jun 11 – Riding the slab to Sussex, N.B.

This was not a great day, at least as far as maintaining the blog goes. I just finished today’s report a few minutes ago and then poked the wrong key and the entire thing went away. Bummer! I think I’ll just post the few pics I took this evening and a very brief account of today’s lack of events and call it good.

The ride report: To begin with the ride out of Louisbourg began in rain, at least within five minutes and it continued off and on, mostly on, for the balance of the day. As if that weren’t enough the damn cross-winds blew continuously and made riding a full-time job, not the relaxing pastime it usually is. After a brief start this morning I decided to get out of the nasty weather pattern that’s supposed to be ongoing for the next several days and head south to the USA. I had intended to ride through one small area of NS coastline I hadn’t yet visited but the nasty weather would surely have made that less than enjoyable so I’ve opted out.

The food report: This morning’s breakfast was at McDonald’s, lunch was at Tim Horton’s, and dinner was at the Pizza Delight (which it wasn’t) next door to the Covered Bridge Motel where I’m staying tonight.
Arrgh!

So there you have it, a grumpy accounting unworthy of reporting just because I poked the wrong key on my notebook. Tomorrow will be better; I’ll likely be in Maine if the Maritime wind doesn’t blow me into the Atlantic and I’ll be more attentive to the keys I’m dealing with. BTW, have any of you had to deal with notebook size keyboards? This is my first experience and it’s a bit challenging for people with big fat fingers like myself.

Ardios…

  2. Hope you get to go by L.L. Bean in Freeport Maine. Its open 24 hours! A bunch of us photographers went once at 2am driving between the Canadian and US Grand Prix at Watkins and I bought an axe! Still got the damn thing and the great memories.
    Southward ho!
Some news about the bike please. How's it holding up and was it a suitable choice for such a journey?

  3. Yo Ron,
Good to hear from you. I bet the sun's shining non-stop in Concord, eh?
    Best to you & Rita,

    Hey David,
The bike is running without a hitch but I'm going to see if I can locate a Kawasaki dealer and have it serviced. The chain is the original one and although I've oiled it daily it's still got over 15k miles on it, and a lot of them were on nasty roads in Alaska. The engine makes the most wonderful sweet sound when I go through the gears and never misses a beat. I think this is one of those times when "If it ain't broke don't fix it."

    Best,

  5. Hi Dave,
Dang it anyway, when I rolled past St Johns this morning it was raining so damn hard and the fog was so bad I couldn't see more than a couple of hundred feet. I was so busy working at staying upright I totally spaced looking you up so now I'm in Bangor. Thanks much for your generous offer for gratis lodging & tonic water, I could have used it right about then. So rats, I'm past your place and will keep heading south. Maybe one day you'll ride to OR and I can return the offer. It rains there and even gets cold a couple of days a year but nothing like you guys have to deal with. Keep that in mind and thanks again.
    Best
